Wi-Fi for a full house

In August a Surf City house can have a dozen people and many more devices. Access points are placed on each floor and connected by cable, so the Wi-Fi doesn't slow to a crawl when everyone streams at night. An outdoor access point covers the deck and the outdoor shower area. Guests get their own network.

Hardwired cameras at the doors

Cameras at the front door, the driveway, and the side yard run on a single cable each, which carries both power and video. There are no batteries to die over the winter and no weak wireless link to drop. You can view them from your phone on the mainland, and they record to a recorder in the gear closet.

In Surf City

  • A full house in August means every phone, TV, and tablet is on the Wi-Fi at once.
  • Wi-Fi out to the deck and the outdoor shower, not just inside.
  • Hardwired cameras at the front door and the driveway, with no batteries to swap in winter.

Questions about Surf City

Can you get Wi-Fi out to the deck?
Yes. An outdoor-rated access point, connected by cable, covers the deck and the yard. We test it outside before we leave.
Why hardwired cameras instead of battery ones?
Hardwired cameras get power and video over one cable, so there's nothing to recharge and no wireless signal to drop. Every camera we install is hardwired.
Will the Wi-Fi hold up with a full house?
That's what it's planned for. Access points on each floor, connected by cable, share the load, and guests get their own network.
Do you do home theater in Surf City?
Yes. A family room or a dedicated room can get a TV or projector and surround sound on the same panel as the lights. It's quoted after a walk-through.
