Smart Home for Shore Rentals: Codes, Wi-Fi, and Turnovers

By Chris Stefanov ·

A shore rental runs better when each guest gets their own door code, the guest Wi-Fi is separate from your cameras and locks, the thermostats have limits, and one turnover scene resets the house between stays. Izzo Network sets this up for rentals from Long Beach Island to Cape May. Every house is quoted after a free walk-through.

A code for every stay

Smart locks hold a separate code for each guest that starts and stops on the dates you set. The cleaners, the handyman, and family each get their own code too. You can see from your phone which code opened the door and when. There's no lockbox and no key to replace.

Guest Wi-Fi on its own network

Guests get a simple network name and password, ideally printed by the door. Your locks, thermostats, and cameras stay on a separate network the guests can't see. Access points are placed so the Wi-Fi reaches every bedroom and the deck, because a weak signal upstairs is the complaint you hear about most.

Thermostat limits

Smart thermostats can keep guests within a range you choose, so the AC isn't set to its lowest with the sliders open. Between stays, the turnover scene sets them back until the next arrival.

One turnover scene

Checkout morning, one press on a keypad or your phone sets the thermostats back, turns off the lights, and closes the shades. The cleaners walk into a house that's already reset, and you can run the arrival scene before the next guest pulls in.

Cameras outside only

Rental cameras belong outside, at the doors and the driveway, and every camera we install is hardwired. Check your local rental rules and your listing platform's rules about disclosing cameras.
